In this week’s video tutorial, we create a custom hatched drop shadow text effect using only Adobe Illustrator. You can pick up the free font used here: …

  1. What if we want to create a transparent stroke/gap around the letters? (rather than a white stroke that may show on a colored background)?

  2. How would you create the gap between the letters and the hatching if your type was on a textured background or something that you couldn't color match?

  3. This is great, thank you for taking your time explaining!
My only issue is that my slices wont "send to back"
I've gone through the tutorial twice and cannot figure it out. Any suggestions?

  4. It says my text is very complex when I try to make it a compound mask, and it only makes one of my letters into the compound mask, the rest of the text is non existent.

  5. Now I know to press shift when using the eye dropper tool so it changes what I want it to change (in this case the stroke, not the fill). Thanks.

  6. You have no idea how helpful you have been. You're the first (of many) that I can understand and follow as a beginner. Thank you so much! I'll be watching your other videos and subscribing.

  7. Hey! First, thank you so much for the tutorial! I love your channel! 2 I have a problem with the Compound path! It's greyd out!!

  8. Great and clear explanation! Is there any way to have a no-fill text? My gold hatch shows through when I have outlined text and I don't know how to make it not show. Thanks!
